Asian University for Women is an independent, international university based in Chittagong, Bangladesh. AUW admits female students from 18 countries in the region, on the basis of merit, regardless of their family's income level. A large share of the students come from conflict affected contexts, including Afghanistan and Myanmar. In 2023, 85% of AUW students were on scholarships, with many being the first in their families to attend a university. AUW offers a residential, undergraduate program in the liberal arts and sciences and is presently planning for the establishment of a number of graduate schools. Partnerships with international universities, their faculty and students, are crucial to the delivery of its academic programs.

In this seminar, Kamal Ahmad, the Founder of the Asian University for Women (AUW) and President & CEO of the Asian University for Women Support Foundation, will describe the work of the AUW, focusing on its impact on women’s opportunities and leadership in the region. He will also discuss the various opportunities for University of Toronto students and faculty to collaborate with the AUW, including through teaching and internship roles.
