Maple Xiang
Biography
Maple Xiang is a first-year PhD student in Adult Education and Community Development, with over five years of professional experience in higher education and community-based settings. Their research explores the transformative nature of community for (un)learning and collective healing, centring racialized 2SLGBTQ+ communities. Maple has been invited as a workshop facilitator and guest speaker for several events, including those organized by the University of Toronto’s Sexual and Gender Diversity Office and faculty within the Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education.
Drawing on research, practice, and lived experience, Maple views collective radical hope as essential for sustaining communities and sparking action toward more equitable futures. As co-chair, they aim to cultivate such hope by fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and highlighting innovative student research at the 2026 Graduate Student Research Conference.
