About Us

The Robertson Program for Inquiry-based Teaching in Mathematics and Science is a small, donor-funded organization committed to advancing equitable access to high-quality math and science education. We aim to make research-based, classroom-ready content freely available to all teachers and students.

We use an inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning because it centers questions, ideas, and exploration. This approach deepens students’ conceptual understanding of mathematics and science by building on what they already know. By honouring student thinking and curiosity, inquiry creates more equitable learning environments where all students can thrive.

Working primarily with underserved, racialized, and Indigenous communities, we design research projects that explore rigorous and joyful opportunities to learn. We also develop and share programs, professional learning, and resources that empower students, as well as both pre-service and in-service teachers, to succeed in mathematics and science.

The Robertson Program for Inquiry-based Teaching in Mathematics and Science is housed at the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study (JICS), which includes three integrated components: The Laidlaw Research Centre, an elementary laboratory school, and the Master of Arts in Child Study – a graduate teacher education program that integrates academic, research, and classroom practice.  JICS is part of the Â¥·ïÌìÌà at the .
